How to root Samsung Galaxy Ace on Froyo & Gingerbread

We previously discussed about what advantages and disadvantages of rooting were.

If you are still on Froyo, it is strongly recommended that you update to Gingerbread.

You can check your firmware going to Settings> About phone> Firmware version.

Warranty will get void after rooting . If you want to get warranty back, you simply have to unroot it.

If you are on Froyo-

Download SuperOneClick 1.9.5 from here and extract it anywhere on your PC.
On your phone, make sure USB debugging is enabled in Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
Now connect your phone to the computer and run SuperOneClick.exe and hit the Root button.

If you are on Gingerbread-

Download upd_1.zip from here and copy it to the root of your SD card.
Reboot into recovery by holding the Home and Power button, letting go of the power button once you see the Samsung logo.
Navigate to update from sdcard (with the help volume buttons) and then select upd_.1zip.
Once the file is flashed (takes around 2 seconds), reboot the device from the recovery menu.

Note:

Those who are getting errors and cant root their phone , Download this file “AceGingerRoot.zip” and use it instead of “upd_1.zip”

Congratulations you have successfully rooted your phone.

FAQ:
How to verify whether I am rooted?
Go to the app drawer, there should be an app called superuser present there.

I have already rooted my SGA Gingerbread 2.3.6 with “ROOT-S583C-i-M.zip” It all has been happiness, but now I get the message “# su binary outdated” in my notifications bar many times a day. What can I do? Is this dangerous?

upd_1.zip worked fine on my 2.3.3 stock ROM, but it fails on my 2.3.6 stock ROM. acegingerroot.zip claims it installs in 2.3.6, and a superuser icon is present, but it is unable to grant su priviledges to other applications like ROM manager, ES File explorer etc.

When it tries to update su 2.3.1 it fails and cannot write the updated archive for manual install. And updating superuser app to latest market version does not fix it. Therefore at the moment, there is no root that is working for 2.3.6 stock Samsung ROMs. Any ideas to fix this?
